Frequently asked questions

What is backyourflag.com?

A live world contest — the world cup of attention. People bid to back their country’s flag. Every bid raises the country’s pot, weekly charts award championship points, and the country with the most points on 31 December 2026 wins Season 1.

What does my bid buy?

Immediate placement on the leaderboard and participation in Season 1. The highest backer of each country holds its name slot — a live, clickable spot showing your handle or link. Bids are final; there are no goods or services and no element of chance.

Where does the charity money come from?

5% of all customer bid revenue (net of payment fees, excluding house entries) plus a $100 house pledge for every activated country. The full fund is donated by 31 January 2027 to a registered charity serving the winning country, and the receipt is published on our transparency page.

Which charity gets the money?

A registered charity serving the winning country, announced at season end. Until then no charity is named. If the contest ends early, the accrued fund is donated at that point to a UK-registered charity.

How do the weekly charts work?

Charts run Monday 00:00 UTC to Sunday 23:59 UTC, ranked by customer bids per country that week. The top 10 earn F1-style points: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 — doubled for the final two weeks of December.

What does "first bid unlocks $100" mean?

Every country starts unclaimed. The first real bid on a country activates it and triggers a $100 pledge from the house into the charity fund for that flag — so a $10 bid can unlock $100 of charity money for your country.

Is this gambling?

No. Placement and results are determined solely by amounts bid. There are no draws, no random rewards, and no element of chance.

Which countries are listed?

All UN member states plus territories with widely recognised ISO codes. Jurisdictions under comprehensive international sanctions are not listed. Listing implies no political position, and the contest is not affiliated with any government.
